Alfred Hoppe

Alfred Hoppe died peacefully at home with his family on August 5th at the age of 82 in East Islip, New York.

Alfred was born on March 5, 1935 in New York, NY to the late Alfred and Margarete Hoppe. He graduated from Islip High school in 1952 and went on to serve proudly in the United States Army from 1954-1956. After a 37 year career as an engineer with IBM, Alfred thoroughly enjoyed retirement, was passionate about his garden, did not miss many Giants or Ranger games and loved to travel with Gerda to six continents.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerda, children Karen Hohenleitner and husband, Ralph, of Middletown RI, Lisa Boettger and husband, Craig, of Merrick, NY, Christina Hamedl of Fishkill NY, Eric Hoppe and wife, Marissa, of Summit NJ, and Stephen Hoppe and wife, Marjorie, of New York, NY and grandchildren, April Hoppe, Jessica Hohenleitner, Frank Hamedl and Jeremy Hoppe.

Alfred was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he taught Sunday school in East Islip for seventeen years. In addition to his work with the Sunday School Alfred served on numerous church boards, ushered and was a trustee for Trinity Lutheran Church Living Trust Fund. He was an avid golfer and boater, and would often be seen around town on one of his many long walks or bike rides through East Islip, and he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. Alfred had a strong faith, who cared more about others than himself and always strived to do the right thing.

Donations may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church (Islip, NY) or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Immediately at the conclusion of the worship service Internment will take place at Calverton.

After Interment the family invites you to The Irish Coffee Pub in Islip for lunch.
