Frederick Charles "Fred" Otis, 89, Salina, died Sunday, March 4, 2007. Mr. Otis was born March 7, 1917, near Logan. He was a farmer and worked at Cooperatives in Nebraska, Concordia and Phillipsburg and Waters True Value Hardware, Salina. He attended Fort Hays State University in 1941 and 1942. He married Muriel Joy Koontz on March 21, 1942, in Hays. He was a member of Kiwanis, VFW and First United Methodist Church Men. He was in the U.S. Army from December 1942 to January 1946, serving in World War II and the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Sophia L. (Hoppe) Otis; a son, Kenneth D., in 1950; and a sister, Mildred E. Otis. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Joy, of Salina; a son, James F. and wife Darlene of Hutchinson; two daughters, Janet S. Nease and husband David of Salina and Joy L. Caples and husband Joe of Shawnee; a brother, John H. of Agra; six grandchildren, Ryan Nease and wife Ashley of Salina, Derek Nease of Manhattan, Deanna Caples, Christina Caples and Donna Caples, all of Shawnee, and Anna Mall and husband, James of Overland Park; and two great-grandchildren, Owen Mall of Overland Park and Aiden Nease of Salina. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Agra Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church, Salvation Army or Youthville, 122 North Eighth. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N.
