July 14th, 1859 -- Hard frost this morning. What we were informed was Echo Canon turned out to be some other small canon, we only reached the eastern extremity of it this morning having passed through the finest pasturage we have seen on the trip, plenty of springs all the way. We are said to be about 60 miles from the City.Powell
Travelled 16 miles. We entered Echo Canon this afternoon. It is 20 miles long. We have travelled down it 10. There is quite a brook running down it. We have good grass.
