Raymond and Ila’s father, Art Ackman, grew up about a quarter mile apart in Jefferson county Nebraska. Ila first met Raymond at his mother’s funeral in 1946 and later lived with Raymond and Irene for a short period when she first moved to California in 1960. Although Ila and her husband, Glen, had celebrated Thanksgiving with Raymond and Irene for over 25 years, last year Raymond had suggested they wait until February to get together.
