Hoppe Family History

This history documents the family of Heinrich Friedrich Christian and Engel Sophie Eleanora (Meier) Hoppe, along with their five children. Both husband and wife came from longstanding families of the area of Bantorf and Wichtringhausen, near Hannover, Germany. In 1869 they left what was then called Prussia and sailed to America and settled in Jefferson County, Nebraska.

Factors leading to their decision to make such a major change of life were political turmoil, family situations and the United States Homestead Act of 1862. They had hope of a better life in the United States and the realization they would not likely return to their former home, family and friends.

From this immigrant couple, over 400 descendants (as of 1994) were identified and are categorized as follows:

 Children5
 Grandchildren35
 Great-Grandchildren73
 Gr-Great-Grandchildren151
 Gr-Gr-Great-Grandchildren153
 Gr-Gr-Gr-Great-Grandchildren8
